LABOUR TD AND former Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources said he has not decided yet whether he will run in the next general election after losing his Cabinet position in today’s reshuffle.
Rabbitte was replaced by his party colleague Alex White, who has been serving as Junior Minister to James Reilly in the Department of Health until now. Speaking to RTÉ this afternoon following the announcement in the Dáil, Rabbitte said the reason given for his removal was to give a new generation their opportunity.
When asked if he believed that he responded: “Whether I buy that or not, that’s what happened. That’s the situation now and I wish each of my colleagues well.”
While the Labour TD said it’s too soon so say whether he’ll run again, he said today’s announcement will have a bearing on his decision.
“If you’re deemed too old to serve at Cabinet at this juncture, it causes you to look at things thorough a different prism,” he said.
