Poll: Does it matter what TDs wear in the Dáil?
The Oireachtas is set to introduce new rules which could see casually dressed TDs booted out. Is that right?
CASUALLY-DRESSED TDS will soon be forced to leave the Dáil chamber, if new rules demanding formal wear are approved by members later this month.
The committee on procedure and privilege has ruled that the casual gear favoured by the likes of Mick Wallace is not acceptable for parliamentary business, with long-sleeved shirts or suit jackets being de rigeur in future.
Fine Gael’s Lucinda Creighton has backed the new rules, saying it’s inappropriate to dress casually when dealing with national issues, while People Before Profit deputy Richard Boyd Barrett has labelled the measures “pathetic”.
