ACCORDING TO THE recent Global Housing and Mortgage Outlook 2015 report from ratings agency Fitch, home ownership figures are declining in Ireland.

The report indicated that the number of Irish people who rent rather than buy their home is on the rise. Home ownership levels have fallen from close to 80 per cent to below 70 per cent (which is still relatively high in Europe).

Home ownership is, in fact, on the decrease all over the world’s more developed economies, with Spain also seeing substantial declines in ownership since 2007.

That means that the question of owning or renting (or both) is once again back to the fore of national conversation. With that in mind, we’re wondering…
