PSNI aid Michaela McAreavey murder investigation in Mauritius

The officers travelled in a “family liaison role”. Mauritian police have so far charged four people with the murder.

TWO OFFICERS FROM the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have travelled to Mauritius to help with the investigation into the death of Michaela McAreavey.

The Irish News reports that the two officers will act “in a family liaison role” according to the PSNI who would not give any further details.

Police in Mauritius are still looking into the murder of the newly-wed who was found dead in her hotel room on 10 January. The 27-year-old was on her honeymoon with husband John, who she had married just 12 days previously. A postmortem revealed she had been strangled.

So far, four people have been charged with her murder. Police arrested a fifth man earlier this month but charges against him were later dropped.
