THE TYPICAL CAR or van dashboard is a mess of lights, symbols and buttons, the sheer volume of which can confound even the most confident of motorists.

Dashboard warning lights are there to keep drivers safe, and to remind us to do certain vehicle-related tasks, like filling up the fuel tank, checking washer fluid, and so on.
