Kennycourt Stud Farm

PICS: Locals lock themselves inside Kildare farm to prevent repossession

The locals padlocked themselves inside Kennycourt Stud Farm in Brannockstown to prevent 10 gardaí and six security guards from entering the site.

KENNYCOURT STUD FARM in Co Kildare was at the centre of a battle last night between locals and receivers.

Around 12 locals padlocked themselves inside the 120-acre of Kennycourt Stud Farm in Brannockstown and parked a digger at the gate preventing 10 gardaí and around six security guards working for the receivers from entering the site.

The farm, owned by Eugene McDermott, was to be sold by IBRC, formally known as Anglo Irish Bank, following an outstanding loan of €814,000. While McDermott also owes money to Bank of Scotland, believed to be in the region of around €7 million.

McDermott did not attend the highly tense demonstration last night.

Today, there are just two security guards at the still tightly padlock and blocked gate. The men said that nothing could be done today as they were waiting for another High Court order.

Here is the protest last night:
