Russell Brand's bodyguards accused of beating up photographers

AP says their photographer was punched several times and had his glasses broken.

FOUR PHOTOGRAPHERS HAVE claimed that Russell Brand’s bodyguards assaulted them as they photographed the comedian in India.

The photographers work for the Associated Press, Reuters, AFP and Hindustan Times, according to the PA.

Brand and his fiancé pop singer Katy Perry are due to marry tomorrow in India.

The photographers, who claim Brand watched the incident, say they were taking in a jeep photos of the stars at an Indian national park. They say two of Brand’s bodyguards jumped out of their vehicle and began punching them.

AP Global Entertainment Editor Alicia Quarles said her agency’s photographer was ok but had been punched several times and had his glasses broken. She said:

Katy and Russell have promoted this wedding for months, so we are covering it as a news event, just as we do with other celebrity weddings. There is no reason this group should have been attacked for covering a legitimate news story.
