THE SEARCH FOR a missing fisherman resumed at Lough Ree in Co Roscommon this morning, but bad weather looks set to interfere with the task.
Three men went into the water after their boat capsized on Lough Ree on Thursday.
While two of the men were rescued from the water, one of men – who was in his 20s – died just hours after his rescue. The second man is in critical condition in hospital.
The accident happened when the men were travelling to Carnagh from Hodson Bay in Athlone on Thursday evening.
The alarm was raised by a member of the public who saw the conditions the boat was facing.
The crew found one of the three men in the water at around 4pm, while the second was found at 5.15pm.
Search
The third man has still not been found and the Coast Guard, gardaí and other emergency and rescue services are involved in a search for him.
The Coast Guard helicopter was out for an hour and a half this morning, before returning to base to refuel.
Nothing was found during its search. The Coast Guard said that a number of boats are taking part in the search, and the Lough Ree lifeboat is currently out at the moment.
However, the forecast is “fairly poor” and as the day goes on the weather is set to deteriorate, with squally and gusty winds predicted.
This will most likely affect the search for the missing Co Armagh man.
The search is being concentrated on the south and east sides of the lough.
