Search continues for man who fell into the sea in Antrim

The search for the man is resuming this morning.

Updated 11.07

THE SEARCH FOR a man is underway after he was swept off the rocks and into the sea off Ramore Head in Portrush.

Police and Coastguard teams began their search for the man last night and they will resume the search later this morning.

Fell of the rocks

The 38-year-old is thought to have been swept off the rocks and into the sea by a wave at around 4.25pm yesterday afternoon.

An extensive air and sea search was called off at around 8pm last night due to poor light.

The authorities have said that a number of members of the public have attended the area at Ramore Head where a male was swept into the sea yesterday offering to help in the search.

They stated that some people have placed themselves in significant danger by entering the water or attempting to search independently of police and coastguard crews.

They are asking that only safety members who have been properly trained should take part in the search.

The PSNI said that deteriorating weather and sea conditions mean that the search environment is extremely challenging and police do not want to see anyone put at risk.
