Telly Wars: TV3 sues RTÉ for €10 million over transmission fees

TV3 claims that it was charged more than TG4 paid to be broadcast on the RTÉ-owned national transmission network.

TV3 IS SUING the state broadcaster RTÉ for €10 million in a row over transmission fees it is reported today.

Writing in today’s Sunday Times (subscription), Mark Paul says that proceedings lodged at the High Court last week indicate that TV3 is seeking repayment of some of the fees it paid to be broadcast on the RTÉ-owned national transmission network between 1998 and 2008.

The independent television station’s argument is that the fees it paid to RTÉ Transmission Network Limited (RTÉNL) were more than the regulated prices TG4 was paying to RTÉNL. The dispute is also being investigated by ComReg, the communications regulator. RTÉ said it had fulfilled its contractual obligations with TV3 and that a new contract was signed in 2008.
