The Handmade Soap Company continues to impress with global sustainability nod

The Meath-based group keeps sustainability firmly at its core.

MEATH-BASED BUSINESS, The Handmade Soap Company, has become the first Irish personal care brand to get a B Corp certification, which affirms the company’s social and environmental capabilities.

The internationally recognised accreditation highlights businesses who are putting sustainability at the core of their operations. It looks at performance, accountability, and transparency across a range of aspects, with over 300 questions included in the lengthy evaluation process.

For a company with the mantra of ‘kindness comes naturally’, the B Corp is verification that it walks the walk when it comes to sustainability.

We caught up with founder Donagh Quigley, who revealed how proud he was:

Receiving the B Corp accreditation was one of my proudest moments in our business journey. B Corp is one of the most demanding certifications and evaluates a brand’s social and environmental impact.

The Handmade Soap Company began its journey in Donagh’s kitchen, where he and his wife Gemma created the first products together from scratch. Using only natural elements, their products have helped consumers across Ireland and further afield take care of their skin with simple and easy-to-trace ingredients.

This commitment to sustainability extends across all aspects of the production process, as the group relies on recycled plastic, compostable pouches, hydropower, and sustainable cardboard to bring their products to life.

Being green is the core component of The Handmade Soap Company, with Donagh stating, “As our business grew, nature always remained my grounding force. After all, our native flora and fauna provide the beautiful scents for our home and body products. We quite literally would not be able to make our products without natural ingredients.”

B Lab (the global network behind the B-Corp movement) aims to make the world more inclusive and equitable. The network highlights companies that do just that through ethical business practices with the B Corp accreditation.

The Handmade Soap Company aligns with these lofty standards and works to make the world a better place. “We believe that not doing anything or opting out is not a solution to the problems of the system. We need to visualise a reality of what ‘great’ looks like and then strive for that,” adds Donagh.

The business’s commitment to sustainability is evident through Donagh’s words and is now verified with a B Corp to go with its Ecocert recognition for sustainable solutions.

Our B Corp accreditation is more than just a symbol or a pat on the back. It represents the many ways we live our values; from pushing hard to getting our entire range Ecocert accredited, to doing our very best to create a work environment where we honour our people and their contribution, to constantly trying to source the greenest packaging technology available. Even if this includes taking bets on a world-first green technology, such as our corn-starch based refill pouches.”

The Handmade Soap Company is an Irish business to be proud of thanks to its world-leading sustainability practices and with no sign of slowing up they’ve recently launched their first ever men’s range of body fragrance products.

The launch of this new range will offer a much needed, and widely available all-natural and truly sustainable alternative to the myriad of men’s wash and grooming products on our shelves, where 100% natural ingredients are rare and greenwashing is common.

The range includes a beard oil, hair and body wash, shaving gel, after-shave balm, a bar of soap, and an all-natural deodorant, so if you’re looking to impress this Valentine’s Day, head over to The Handmade Soap Company to discover more.
