Toyota Yaris Hot Hatch

Toyota's new Yaris is shaping up to be a pocket rocket

Toyota get back in the hot hatch game with a 210hp variant.

AFTER A LONG absence, Toyota is finally getting back into the pocket rocket game with this: the new Yaris hot hatch, which the maker has confirmed will pack a punch of at least 210hp.

This spec would make the Yaris one of the most powerful models in the B-segment, ahead of the Ford Fiesta ST (182hp), MINI Cooper S (192hp), Peugeot 208 GTI (208hp) and Volkswagen Polo GTI (189hp).

The car is inspired by Toyota’s World Rally Championship contender, and this three-door version gets nifty-looking alloys, a neat rear spoiler and a central exhaust as well as red and black detailing and black side mirrors.

Rumours are that it will be called the Yaris Gazoo after the Toyota rally team. Incidentally, you can catch the Yaris WRC in action this week during the opening round of the 2017 FIA World Rally Championship in Monte Carlo. This is Toyota’s first time competing in the WRC since 1999.

Toyota has also confirmed that the whole Yaris range will get an update including a new face, front and rear lights, rear styling and a more modern interior as well as technical mods to improve comfort and handling.

The go-faster Yaris will be unveiled in full at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.
