Two still being questioned over shooting of 16-year-old in Tallaght

The men were arrested yesterday evening in connection with the killing of teenager Melanie McCarthy-McNamara last week.

TWO MEN ARE still being questioned by gardaí this morning in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Melanie McCarthy-McNamara.

The men, one in his early 20s and one in his late teens, were arrested in Athy in Co Kildare yesterday evening following an operation involving gardaí from Tallaght, the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and local gardaí from Kildare.

The men are being held in Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

The teenager was shot and killed as she sat in a parked car at Brookview Way in Tallaght on 7 February. She was taken to Tallaght Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí believe that she may not have been the intended victim of her shooter.
