Drivers were advised to give themselves extra time to de-ice their cars, but gardaí are warning drivers to remain in the vehicle while they do so following this morning’s incidents.
Frost is expected in some areas again overnight tonight, while tomorrow will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
Gardaí are also advising to check if your car is winter-ready.
“You should get your car serviced before winter sets in to make sure it is ready for the conditions which will undoubtedly arrive when least expected,” the advice read.
This includes making sure lights, liquids, oil, electrics, windscreen wipers and tyres are all up to correct operational standards.
They are also asking motorists to “ensure your vehicle has a more than adequate supply of fuel” for any journeys being made.
Allow extra time and drive with caution. Let someone know your route and when you expect to arrive and your destination.
And remember – don’t leave your car unattended.
