YouTube videos are going to look amazing from now on
The site has quietly rolled out 60fps videos, which will allow for smoother, higher-quality videos.

IF YOU THINK the quality of YouTube videos is pretty good right now, then prepare to be amazed.

Earlier this year, YouTube announced that it would introduce 48 and 60fps videos for more “motion-intensive videos,” but hadn’t revealed anything beyond that. Now it’s rolling out support for the service and allowing users to upload videos with a smoother frame rate.

First spotted by Kotaku, the service can be activated provided you bump up the video quality to 720p or 1080p, and are using a HTML5 compatible browser (e.g.: Chrome, Safari, and Internet Explorer).

For those watching funny videos and the like, you won’t notice much of a change, but for games and movie trailers, it makes a major difference as the action is a lot smoother than before.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the majority of 60fps tests that have started recently involve videogames as the faster frame rate suits the medium more. It also helps that it looks amazing, and matches the same quality you would get if you were playing it in your living room.

And for those wondering how this would translate to a movie trailer, look no further.
