Angelina Jolie-ing is the newest new, new planking

Forget stocking. Forget horsemaning. Forget owling. Forget planking. Replicating an outrageous slit in your dress is where it’s at.

REMEMBER PLANKING? And all the various spin-off offline memes it prompted, like the precarious owling? And the barely explicable coneing? And the curiously amusing leisure diving? And the pushing-it-a-bit horsemanning? And the gloriously mindless stocking? (Edit: We forgot Tebowing. Somehow.)

It seemed for a while that the trait of internet-inspired offline amusements had quietened down – but just when the pursuit of inane amusements needed a shot in the arm, along comes Angelina Jolie to revive the dying art.

If you happened to catch the Oscars live or seen any of the red carpet pictures, you’ll no doubt have spotted Jolie in her Atelier Versace gown… showing some leg. Or, rather, a lot of leg.

Presenting the awards for the best adapted and original screenplays at Sunday’s awards, Jolie even prompted the writers of The Descendants – picking up their award in the former category – to replicate her pose, spawning a wave of online copycats.

Like any decent meme, Angelina Jolie-ing (yes, that’s its inelegant name) has a dedicated Tumblr – but goes one further with its already highly-followed Angelina Jolie’s Leg Twitter account (sample message: “Check me out! Leg!!”).

Here, borrowed from the Tumblr account, is a selection of some of the Jolie-ing.
