Updated 8.47am

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after an armed raid on a bingo hall in Dundalk, Louth.

Up to four men entered the premises armed with a hammer shortly after 9pm last night, threatened staff and made off with a sum of cash.

The premises in question was the popular Let’s Bingo bingo hall on Racecourse Road in Dundalk.

In a statement shortly after midnight last night, the owners said they were forced to close early to allow gardaí interview witnesses and staff.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by such mindless criminals and we are working tirelessly, aiming to be fully functional again by Thursday afternoon from 2pm onwards,” manager David Bell said.

The main thing we are concerned with is that nobody was hurt or injured.

“Thank you again for your understanding and please try to understand the staff will try and offer their usual friendly service despite their personal distress,” he added.

The hall was open at the time, with the main Bingo session due to have started at 8.15pm.

The men left the scene in a silver car.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400.
