ABOUT 1,000 STAFF members at Bord na Móna are to take to the picket lines next month.
Employees of the semi-State agency will take part in a 24-hour work stoppage on 10 April over demands for a pay increase.
Official notice of the industrial action has been served on Bord na Móna, SIPTU organiser and secretary Oliver McDonagh told TheJournal.ie.
“We want to put pressure on the company and let them know that we are serious about this matter being dealt with,” he said.
Workers at the semi-State body voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action in a ballot earlier this month as employees try to ensure the national pay agreement of 2008 is followed.
Unions representing the staff at the company say they are due a 3.5 per cent pay increase, which was agreed under the Towards 2016 social partnership deal.
However, Bord na Móna management have said funding the increase would necessitate spending cuts elsewhere and put jobs at risk.
