Ter, depends on who you talk to but yes in my mind its a religious holiday.

How is celebrating the first successful harvest a religious thing? Or the slaughter of thousands of natives, but whatever.

Ter the Americans often say happy holidays in order to avoid bringing religion into it at Christmas time.

Thanksgiving is not religious. It is 4th Thurs in Nov. Christmas is only national holiday that is religious in any way. Easter is not a national holiday, so St Patrick has no chance : (

And who or what is being thanked on thanksgiving day?

In history, it was God being thanked – for harvest and food/ goodwill between pilgrims and Native American Indians. Later, under Lincoln, thanks for military success in civil war etc. Today, US is so secular, it is simply thanks to friends/ family/good health. For those of us with religion, it is to God. Usually a mass at Catholic Church, but never heard of other religions regarding it at all. Basically, a day of food and start of Christmas shopping now!

What has that got to do with this topic? Maybe I should go roaring my head off in the parade as well about how I fancy my missus. Christ above!
