Hillary Clinton returns to work, to meet with American ambassador to Ireland

Following a series of health problems including a blood clot in her head, the US Secretary of State has a full schedule this week ahead of her departure later this month.

US SECRETARY OF State Hillary Clinton will return to work with a busy schedule this week after she was discharged from hospital last week where she underwent treatment for a blood clot in her head.

A schedule released by the US State Department yesterday shows Clinton set for meetings with assistant secretaries later today just a few weeks before she is due to step down as America’s top diplomat.

Clinton has been sidelined for the last four weeks after taking ill on her return from a trip to Europe which included a stay in Dublin at the beginning of December.

She was hospitalised in New York last week where she was treated for a cranial blood clot and has been resting at her home in New York since then.

In recent weeks, she has also suffered from a stomach virus and concussion but her doctors say she is expected to make a full recovery.

The 65-year-old will meet with the American ambassador to Ireland, Dan Rooney, tomorrow as well as South Africa’s ambassador to the US.

She will also hold meetings with outgoing secretary of defence, Leon Panetta, and Tom Donilon, the US’ national security advisor.

The most significant event on the agenda for the week is meetings with Afghanistan’s president Hamid Karzai in the US capital on Thursday and Friday.

Clinton will step down towards the end of the month and is expected to be succeeded by veteran senator John Kerry who was nominated as her successor by President Barack Obama last month.
