Man in Cork critically injured in altercation outside pub

The man received a serious head injury and remains in critical condition in Cork University Hospital.

GARDAÍ HAVE CONFIRMED a man in his 50s is in critical condition after being injured in an altercation outside a pub in Cork in the early hours of this morning.

The incident took place outside the Red Cove Inn, Mahon, in Cork city at around 12.30am and Gardaí say the man received a serious head injury.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment and it is understood he remains in critical condition.

The scene was preserved by a garda technical team and detective are appealing for information from locals in the area. A number of witnesses to the incident have already come forward.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information on the incident to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021-4522000.

Lads theres a Garda station within a stones throw of this pub. I am all for calling people to account but let’s not blame the Guards for the actions of people who are just determined to hurt and kill people no matter who is around or what the consequences are!

The Garda station near the pub is not manned 24/7… After 5pm all queries are diverted to Angelsea Street in the city

  We are better off having rough dives, if that is a dive, I know nothing of the place. At least these kips keep their regulars away from our normal pubs, and normal people who enjoy a pint safe.

I would imagine Resources change minute to minute depending on the demand. No brainer really. I’m assuming ur not suggesting that gardai would ignore calls for help at a serious incident to continue issue tickets.

  I’m saying that if Garda productivity was based on issuing tickets , then they would be high achievers. However

I didn’t think Garda resources were stretched last night when Gardai were dishing out tickets at 11.30 to taxis parked outside a pub.

Crazy how violent the streets are getting, every day now there is a story on someone being critically injured and dying through assaults, whats gone wrong like?? Where are the gardai on the beat? Not blaming the gardai but surely if there was a stronger presence on the streets at closing times this would deter such activity?

Lisa, the point I was making was that at times Garda resources don’t appear to be over stretched , as in booking taxis for being parked outside a pub in Cork at 11.30 on a Friday night when not far away a person is seriously assaulted.

  How much would you think the state earned from those tickets? After that calculate how much it would be lost if they were at this altercation. Its like every other state provided service. The law is only for those that can pay. Dont blame the gardai blame the state.

  James that’s an absolute ridiculous comment What do you expect the public service to do when they are dangerously understaffed? So they weren’t out when the poor guy got injured? They can’t split themselves in two. For all we know they were responding to another serious crime.
