Gardaí investigate report child fired gun dropped by suspect in garda pursuit

Two men were arrested by gardaí shortly after the incident.

A CHILD IS understood to have fired a gunshot after a firearm was dropped during a garda pursuit in north Dublin this afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 3pm today in Ballymun. Gardaí had been responding to reports of a firearm incident in the area.

It’s understood that during the garda pursuit of a man in the area, a firearm was dropped and subsequently picked up by a child.

A shot was then fired before the weapon was taken away by another suspect.

Gardaí later arrested two males, one in his 20s and a teenage boy, who are currently detained at a garda station in Dublin.

“There were no reports of injuries in relation to this incident,” a garda spokesperson said.

They added that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
