THE TAOISEACH HAS released his Christmas message for 2014, telling the country the government is working “day and night” to strengthen the economy so those who have emigrated can come home.

“I know many of you will be catching up with sons and daughters , brothers and sisters, through Facebook and Skype,” he said.

For families at Christmas, Facetime – good as it is – is no substitute for face-to-face.

While he recognised it has been a difficult year for people, he said we are approaching the longest night of the year and when that is over “the darkness recedes and new light comes into the world”. He wished “brighter days” for Irish people in the year ahead.

“May that new light bring you prosperity and new hope to our country.”
