Three pipe bombs found in Limerick house

The three viable devices were made safe by an Army bomb disposal team in the early hours of this morning.

THREE VIABLE HOMEMADE explosive devices were found in an abandoned house in rural Limerick in the early hours of this morning.

The pipe bombs, along with some shotgun cartridges, were found by Gardaí at 2.45am during a search of the property in Ballysheedy East.

An Army bomb disposal team was called to the scene to investigate the discovery. A spokesperson said that a cordon was put in place for public safety but there was no need to evacuate properties because of the isolated location of the building.

All three devices were defused at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion. The operation took just under an hour and a half.

The area has been sealed off for a forensic technical examination and the devices have been removed for technical and ballistics tests.

Gardaí from the Roxboro Road Garda station are investigating.
