THE SEASON OF First Holy Communions and Confirmations is in full swing, as schoolchildren across the country prepare to take part in these sacraments.
With it comes a familiar debate for families and guests alike – how much is appropriate to give a child on the day?
The most recent report by Laya Life found that spending on Communion and Confirmation gifts has fallen in the last decade. Parents spent an average of €120 per child in 2025, compared with €573.72 in 2015.
We wanted to see if this downward trend is continuing a year on and if this amount changes depending on your relationship to the child.
So, today we’re asking: how much would you give to a child making their Communion or Confirmation?
