How much would you give to a child making their Communion or Confirmation?

‘Tis the season.

THE SEASON OF First Holy Communions and Confirmations is in full swing, as schoolchildren across the country prepare to take part in these sacraments.

With it comes a familiar debate for families and guests alike – how much is appropriate to give a child on the day?

The most recent report by Laya Life found that spending on Communion and Confirmation gifts has fallen in the last decade. Parents spent an average of €120 per child in 2025, compared with €573.72 in 2015.

We wanted to see if this downward trend is continuing a year on and if this amount changes depending on your relationship to the child.

So, today we’re asking: how much would you give to a child making their Communion or Confirmation?
