GARDAÍ IN DUBLIN have seized a large quantity of drugs as part of an operation into organised criminal activity.

Officers from the drugs and organised crime bureau, with assistance of gardaí from the Tallaght drugs unit, intercepted a vehicle yesterday evening on the Greenhills Road in Tallaght.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of heroin and cocaine, with an estimated value of up to €3 million.

Four firearms were seized – an AK-47 assault rifle, two .22 rifles and a loaded pump action shotgun – along with associated ammunition.

Silencers and telescopic sights were also found with the weapons.

Two men aged 41 and 34 were arrested and are currently being held at Tallaght garda station in connection with drugs offences.

They have been charged and will appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice today.
