Hillary Clinton hospitalised with blood clot

Doctors discovered the clot while Clinton was undergoing a routine follow-up examination after she fainted earlier this month.

US SECRETARY OF State Hillary Clinton has been hospitalised with a blood clot.

Doctors discovered the clot on Sunday while she was undergoing a routine follow-up examination after she fainted earlier this month.

Her spokesperson Philippe Reines said she is being treated with anti-coagulants at New York Presbyterian Hospital where she will be monitored over the next two days. Reines said she is undergoing treatment but did not give any indication as to how serious the clot is.

“Her doctors will continue to asses her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion,” he said in a statement. “They will determine if any further action is required.”

Clinton hit her head and suffered a concussion when she fainted at her home two weeks ago. She was suffering from a stomach virus at the time which had caused her to become dehydrated.

The concussion forced Clinton to cancel her testimony before the US Congress about a new report which pinpointed a number of security failures in the attacks on 11 September this year which saw the American ambassador to Libya and three other Americans killed in Benghazi.

Clinton is due to step down as the top US diplomat after serving four years in the role. She will be replaced by former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
