A prankster made some slight changes to the Hollywood sign overnight
RESIDENTS OF LOS ANGELES awoke to find a prankster had altered the famed Hollywood sign in a New Year’s prank to read “HOLLYWeeD”.
KABC-TV reports Los Angeles police have dispatched a unit to investigate the apparent vandalism.
Police have also notified the city’s Department of General Services, whose officers patrol Griffith Park and the area of the rugged Hollywood Hills near the sign.
California voters in November approved Proposition 64, which legalised the recreational use of marijuana, beginning in 2018.
According to local reports, someone was spotted on CCTV footage approaching the sign and throwing a tarpaulin over the two Os.
This isn’t the first time the prank has been carried out – a similar incident took place in 1976, also on New Year’s Day, after a new marijuana law come into effect.
