THE FUNERAL OF 21-year-old James Nolan who died in Poland during the European Championships is to take place on Monday.
The student from Blessington in Wicklow died after falling into a river in the city of Bydgoszcz. His body was recovered on Wednesday after a major search lasting four days. Autopsy results show the 21-year-old had drowned.
His body is to repose at his home this evening. His removal will take place on Sunday evening at the Church of our Lady in Blessington and the funeral mass will take place on Monday morning.
Hundreds of residents from Bydgoszcz lined the banks of the river Brda on Thursday in an outpouring of sympathy with James Nolan’s family and friends.
The mayor of the city has made a formal request to UEFA for a minute’s silence to be held before one of the quarter-finals of the tournament.
