A MAN IN his late 20s has been arrested after another man was shot in Limerick this afternoon.

The man – in his 30s – sustained gunshot wounds to his body after he was fired upon at a halting site at Clonglong on the south of the city around 2.30pm.

It’s believed the gunman may have fled from the scene in a vehicle, but he was later detained by gardaí and is currently in custody at Roxboro Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

The victim was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where his condition is unknown.

A garda source said the motive for the gun attack is not yet known at this early stage.

Gardaí are also investigating if a Suzuki Vitara, found burnt out in the Kennedy Park housing estate, located a short distance from where the shooting occurred, has any connection to the earlier attack.

An alley at the rear of houses in the estate has been sealed off by gardaí, pending a technical and forensic examination of the vehicle and the surrounding area.
