A 20-YEAR-OLD MAN who sustained serious injuries in an assault in Dublin in the early hours of New Year’s Day has died in hospital.

Gardaí confirmed this afternoon that the young man died in Beaumont Hospital this afternoon as a result of the injuries he received in the attack on Saint Dominic’s Road in Tallaght at around 4am on Wednesday morning.

The victim was initially brought to Tallaght Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont for treatment.

Gardaí say the attack at a pedestrian bridge which crosses the N81 dual carriageway was carried out by a number of suspects.

Two men – one aged 23 and the other aged 27 – were arrested this afternoon in connection with the case and are currently being held at Tallaght and Rathfarnham Garda Stations.

A man and a woman – both in their 20s – were due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice earlier today in connection with the attack.
