A SURVEY OF 7,000 people in the UK has found that today is the most popular day of the year to propose, coming up miles ahead of Christmas Day and even New Years Eve.
The survey, conducted by Chillisauce, found 32 per cent of people think this is the best day to get down on one knee. In general, Christmas time is the busiest of the year for proposals.
Valentine’s Day – the obvious option – came a close second with 30 per cent of the votes. Women are more keen on this day, with men preferring Christmas Eve, and the anniversary of the day a couple met is also a popular choice.
While the idea of marriage might strike fear into the hearts of some, it’s the fear that inspires others with six per cent voting for Halloween as the best day to propose.
And as for the proposals themselves? None of that fancy stuff is necessary, with 51 per cent of women saying you should cut to the chase and simply ask the question.
However 26 per cent of women who favour ‘techie’ proposals said they would prefer to be asked via social media.
Some 17 per cent of men surveyed have proposed at least five times and most women think bluntly saying no is the best way to turn a man down. Worryingly, eight per cent would say maybe and then just never talk to them again and four per cent would get angry and shout ‘no’ at them.
