Motorist stabbed in back after confrontation with stone-throwing youths

One of the youths pulled a knife and stabbed the man after he stopped his car to assess the damage.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses after a motorist was attacked and stabbed in the back after rocks were thrown at his car.

Gardaí said they are “investigating a serious assault” on Pa Healy Road in Corbally, Limerick, last Saturday night.

Sergeant Justin McCarthy, crime prevention officer at Henry Street Garda Station, said the assault arose after “rocks were thrown” at the man’s car as it drove along the road at 9.20pm on the night.

“The motorist, a 35 year old man, stopped the car and saw it had been damaged. He approached a number of youths whom he had seen throwing the rocks,” Sergeant McCarthy said.

“As he did so he was confronted by the youths, one of whom pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the back,” he added.

The youths ran fled into Lee Estate.

“Fortunately the victim only suffered minor injury,” Sergeant McCarthy said.

It was a cowardly crime against an innocent motorist.

Gardaí are appealing for information so as to identify the culprits concerned.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Mayorstone gardaí on 061-456980; the Garda Confidential Hotline on 1800-666111; or Crimestoppers 1800-250025.
