Elderly man dies in North Strand house fire

The 78-year-old man was the only occupant of the house.

A 78-YEAR-OLD man has died in a house fire in the North Strand area of Dublin.

The fire broke out on Hibernian Avenue, off Ossary Road, last night.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that emergency services responded to a call-out at around 9pm last night.

The man, who was the only occupant of the house, was taken from the building but pronounced dead in the Mater Hospital a short time later.

The blaze is not being treated as suspicious. An examination of the scene is being conducted today.

“Our thoughts are with family, friends and his community,” Dublin Fire Brigade said in a tweet.
