AROUND 120 PEOPLE took part in a protest at Tallaght Hospital today, saying that the facility is under resourced.

RTÉ reports that the Tallaght Hospital Action Group organised the demonstration in solidarity with the staff. The Health Information and Quality Authority announced on Thursday that it continues to be concerned about the care provided to patients at the hospital.

HIQA is to launch an investigation amid concerns about the emergency department at Tallaght.

Meanwhile a protest is planned for Wednesday at Leinster House by the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee. The protest will highlight concerns about changes to the emergency department at the hospital.

The Health Minister Dr. James Reilly has said that what is on offer at Roscommon County Hospital is unsafe and there are plans to establish an urgent care centre, which may take months. The Taoiseach Enda Kenny confirmed last week that there will be changes to the emergency department and that it will not operate at night or at weekends from 11 July due to a shortage of junior doctors.

The health minister said the urgent care centre will be established as soon as the doctors are available.
