Visitor restrictions remain in hospitals due to vomiting bug

Restrictions are still place in Limerick and Cavan though the number of reported cases have significantly declined.

VISITOR RESTRICTIONS REMAIN in place in several hospitals around the country as they attempt to contain the latest outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

National figures show a significant fall in the number of figures with just 29 reported cases in the last week of December compared with 67 in the third week and 130 cases the week before.

A blanket ban on visiting is still in place at Mid-Western Regional hospital in Limerick with people being advised only to attend the Emergency Department if there is a genuine emergency.

Restrictions also remain in place in Cavan General hospital on one ward with visiting to Medical 2 Ward restricted to family members.

A spokesperson for Dublin Mid-Leinster HSE said there was one suspect case of the virus in Mullingar before Christmas but none have been reported since.

While restrictions were also in place in hospitals in the south-east of the country, particularly in Wexford, all hospitals in the region are now clear of visiting restrictions.
