Group to hold anti-war protest outside Dáil

The Irish Anti War Movement is calling for an end to US military flights out of Shannon Airport.

THE IRISH ANTI War Movement is to hold a protest outside the Dáil this evening.

The IAWM is calling a demonstration at Dáil Éireann at 5.30pm today, saying that it wants to protest against a number of issues, including the threat of war against Iran.

Lola Hynes, secretary of the IAWM steering committee said:

There has been some form of sanctions imposed on the Iranian people by the West since the 1979 revolution; however since 2010 they have been greatly intensified and are unprecedented in their severity.

She said that the IAWM believes the Irish Government “in particular should not be supporting such sanctions”.

Jim Roche, PRO of the IAWM, said that group is calling on the Irish Government to “bring home the nine Irish soldiers from Afghanistan, to stop allowing Shannon Airport to be used as a military stopover for the US army and for rendition flights and to stop supporting the threats of war and imposition of sanctions against Iran”.
