Poll: Should cycling be part of the school curriculum?

What do you think?

IN AN EFFORT to combat obesity and improve road safety, Mayo County Council has called for cycle training to be part of the national curriculum for primary schools.

The training would include bike handling, hazard perception and other road skills, and would be aimed at pupils from the age of eight and upwards.

The council says that teaching thousands to use a bike would lead to less congested streets and fewer deaths on the road.

But there are fears that it’s too dangerous to cycle on roads without proper cycle paths, and that the training would take too much time from other subjects on the curriculum.

So today’s question is, should cycling be part of the school curriculum?
