LAST UPDATE | 24 Mar
THIS MORNING GARDAÍ arrested three men on suspicion of the attempted murder of a woman in her 40s who was set on fire at a house in Clondalkin last November.
She has been named by gardaí this evening as Alexis Campion. She “continues to recover from her injuries in hospital” according to a garda spokesperson and has provided a personal photograph of herself for use by the media.
It’s suspected that Alexis, who survived but suffered serious burn injuries, was not the intended target of the attack, and that it was a case of drug gang intimidation.
It’s understood that she was sprayed with an accelerant and then lit on fire. A man who was also in the house at the time of the incident suffered non-life threatening injuries.
A high intensity policing operation was carried out by over 100 members of An Garda Síochana this morning by various units.
A total of 19 properties were searched today in the Clondalkin and Ballyfermot areas.
Gardaí seized a number of items during the operation, including drugs worth an estimated €2000. The seized drugs include zopiclone tablets, cannabis herb, cannabis resin and cocaine.
In addition, Gardaí seized 2 e-scooters and 13 electronic devices of evidential value.
The operation is part of Operation Fógra, which is aimed at tackling drug-related intimidation as part of the Garda National Strategy.
Two of the men arrested are in their 30s and one is an adult teenager. They are currently being detained.
In an update this evening, gardaí said the three males remain detained under section 50 Criminal Justice Act, 2007 in garda stations in Dublin.
The ongoing investigation is being led by the Serious Crime Unit South, DMR West Garda Division, and an incident room has been established in Clondalkin Garda Station.
