Boy (15) dies after getting into difficulty in Lough Ree

A 15-YEAR-OLD BOY has died after getting into difficulty in Lough Ree in Co Westmeath.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the scene after they received reports of a person getting into difficulty in the water off Carnakilla Point in Glasson shortly after 7.30pm on Saturday evening.

After a short search operation, the body of the boy was recovered from the water.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was brought to the mortuary art Regional Hospital Mullingar, gardaí said, adding that a post-mortem exam will be arranged and a file prepared for the coroner.
