Biography

Elected to the Dáil on his first attempt in 2011, he had previously ran unsuccessfully in the 2009 European elections. Formerly a barrister and human rights lawyer with the OCSE, he is a member of the IFA and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Why should someone vote for you (in 140 characters or fewer)?

I fought for investment in vital services like health and education, for rural Ireland, and to bring about reforms promised but not delivered.

What is your number one priority for your constituency?

To ensure the economy in Clare recovers to the same extent as on the east coast, bringing about more balanced development in the State.

What one thing would you like to do in your first 100 days of the new Dáil if you are elected?

I would like to introduce reforms of how the Dáil operates, including reform of the whip system and Standing Orders regarding Parliament Questions – to ensure real replies.
