Councillor Pat Deering is one of three Fine Gael candidates on the party ticket in Carlow-Kilkenny. The Rathvilly farmer followed in his father Michael's footsteps by winning election to Carlow County Council in 2009. He is currently the head of the council's Transport & Infrastructure Strategic Policy Committee.

    Another Did You Know: Pat Deering, because he is from Rathvilly, is actually based in the Wicklow constituency and not Carlow-Kilkenny.

    Yes that is correct. It is a complete anomoly in the manner in which the consituencies are carved out. Rathvilly is part of the TULLOW area which is served by CARLOW COUNTY COUNCIL in the local elections but unfortunately is part of the WICKLOW consituency in the General Elections. What a joke! Rathvilly is in the county of CARLOW and Pat is a dedicated CARLOW man.
