Outgoing Fine Gael TD Simon Coveney has been selected by Fine Gael as a candidate for Cork South-Central. Following the death of his father, Hugh, Coveney was elected in 1998 to the vacant seat in Cork South-Central at the age of just 26. In 2004, he secured over 120,000 votes in the European parliamentary elections, sitting with the EPP-ED group during his three-year term in Brussels. Coveney was re-elected to Dáil Eireann in 2007 and is currently Fine Gael's Frontbench Spokesperson for Transport and Marine.
