Ex-Fine Gael Councillor Jimmy Harte will be contesting the election in Donegal North-East on behalf of the Labour Party. As a Fine Gael member. Harte was elected to Letterkenny Town Council and Donegal County Council in 1999 and 2004. Following his unsuccessful independent candidacy in the 2007 general election, Harte was re-elected to Donegal County Council as an independent in 2009. This will be his first general election as a member of the Labour Party.

Harte is a keen marathon runner and has raised over €30,000 for charities including MS Ireland, Autism Donegal, Aware, Grow, Spina Bifida Ireland and Children in Crossfire.
