Outgoing Fine Gael TD Joe McHugh is a Fine Gael candidate in Donegal North East. A former teacher and community development worker, McHugh started his political life when he was elected to Donegal County Council in 1999. In 2002, the 39-year-old was elected to the Seanad's Administrative Panel. He served a five-year term in the upper house of the Oireachtas before winning election as a first-time Dáil candidate in 2007. He is currently Fine Gael's Spokesperson on North/South co-operation.



 

Did you know?

McHugh was a member of the Oireachtas football team which defeated a House of Commons selection at Old Trafford in 2003.
