Terence Flanagan, the outgoing Fine Gael TD for Dublin North-East, was elected to Dáil Eireann following his first general election campaign in 2007. Following the abolition of the dual mandate, Flanagan was co-opted onto Dublin City Council in October 2003, and was returned to the council in the local elections held seven months later. He was appointed as Fine Gael's spokesperson on Housing in October 2007.
