Kieran Dennison, a relative political novice, has been selected by Fine Gael to partner outgoing deputy Leo Vardakar in Dublin West. Dennison, who was born in Donegal, entered the political arena in the 2009 local elections when he was elected to Fingal County Council as a representative for the Mulhuddart area. He served as constituency chairman of Fine Gael's Dublin West branch from 2005 until 2008.
