Minister for Tourism Mary Hanafin is one of two Fianna Fáil candidates seeking re-election in the Dún Laoighaire constituency. Hanafin, a former secondary school teacher in Dominican College, Sion Hill, was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 1997. In September 2004, she was appointed by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern as Minister of Education, a post which she held until the cabinet reshuffle of 2008. Hanafin has also served as Minister for Social and Family Affairs and briefly as Minister for Enterprise during her time in Leinster House.
