Fine Gael's Michael Noonan is seeking a tenth term of office as a candidate in the redrawn Limerick City constituency. The 67-year-old former schoolteacher has been a deputy in Dáil Eireann since 1981, serving continuously for the past thirty years. During this time, Noonan has served in a number of ministerial posts, including periods as Minister for Justice; Minister for Industry, Commerce and Trade; Minister for Energy; and Minister for Health. He was leader of Fine Gael for a short period from February 2001 to May 2002.
