Former Progressive Democrat TD Mae Sexton is running as a Labour candidate in Longford-Westmeath. The 55-year-old, who represented the PDs in the Dáil from 2002-2007, was approached by the party early last year as they attempt to win a second seat in the four-seater. When Sexton sought re-election in 2007, she was eliminated on the third count with only 4 per cent of first-preference votes.

    How she can make the jump from Progressive Democrats to the Labour Party beats me, but maybe it says as much about how Labour have veered to the right as it does about Mae moving to the left. The ULA dont have a candidate in Longford Westmeath, so apart from Sinn Fein, she seems the best option…
